The Finland Chamber of Commerce has decided to appoint Petra Kiurunen (Partner, Lindfors & Co Attorneys, Helsinki) (CV) as the Chair of the FAI Board starting from 1 April 2018. Kiurunen is currently the Vice Chair of the FAI Board.
The Chair of the FAI Board, from January 2013, Mika Savola (Partner, Hannes Snellman Attorneys, Helsinki) has expressed his wish to step down from the FAI Board in the end of March 2018.
“We would like to thank Mika Savola warmly for his meritorious work at the helm of the FAI Board. Under Mika’s leadership, the FAI adopted new rules, which entered into force in June 2013. The rules revision served as a good starting point for the consistent development of the FAI’s activities. Our aim has been to promote FAI arbitration in Finland and abroad, and we have witnessed successful steps in this regard under Mika’s leadership”, notes Heidi Merikalla-Teir, Secretary General of the FAI. “We would like to wish Mika the best of luck and success in the new phase of his life as an independent arbitrator,” Merikalla-Teir states.
The present term of the FAI Board started on 1 June 2016 and continues until 31 December 2018. In accordance with the FAI Rules, the Board shall consist of a Chair, a maximum of three Vice-Chairs and a maximum of twelve additional members. The Board shall include both Finnish and non-Finnish nationals. The composition of the board can be viewed here.
“We are very grateful and pleased that Petra Kiurunen accepted the appointment as the Chair of the FAI Board until the end of this term. Our cooperation with Petra has been very good and rewarding over the past years, and now we are heading for a new era in developing the FAI’s operations under Petra’s leadership”, states Merikalla-Teir.
Kiurunen has extensive and versatile experience in domestic and international commercial arbitration and litigation. Since September 2010 she has been Partner at Lindfors & Co Attorneys and from January 2013 the Vice-Chair of the FAI Board.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to act as the Chair of the FAI Board. During Mika Savola’s chairmanship, the operations of the FAI have been developed consistently and successfully. I do believe that the FAI has all the possibilities to become –increasingly– an internationally recognized arbitration institution. This is something that we will continue to pursue at the FAI Board and the FAI Secretariat”, says Kiurunen.
Petra Kiurunen will start as the Chair of the FAI Board on 1 April 2018.
