The FAI determines the Administrative Fee and the fees of the arbitral tribunal in cases conducted under the FAI rules based on the amount in dispute.
The costs of arbitration are comprised of:
- the Administrative Fee of the FAI, which includes the Filing Fee or Filing Fees paid in the case;
- the fees of the arbitral tribunal; and
- expenses, if any.
FAI cost calculator
The FAI cost calculator provides the amount of the Administrative Fee and an estimate of the fees of the arbitral tribunal without value added tax. The costs indicated by the FAI cost calculator do not include the legal fees of the parties or possible negotiation rooms, travel or other expenses incurred by the arbitral tribunal.
Filing Fee
The amount of the Filing Fee payable in connection with a Request for Arbitration, counterclaim or set-off claim and Request for Joinder is the following:
- EUR 3 000 per payment in cases conducted under the Arbitration Rules of the Finland Chamber of Commerce; and
- EUR 3 000 per payment in cases conducted under the Rules for Expedited Arbitration of the Finland Chamber of Commerce.
If the parties have agreed to apply a version of the FAI rules that is not the most recent version of the rules in force from time to time, please check the correct amount of the Filing Fee from the version of the rules applicable to the dispute.
The Filing Fee is not subjet to Finnish VAT.
The Filing Fee is non-refundable even if a claim is withdrawn or the arbitration is terminated on other grounds. The Filing Fee(s) paid in the case constitute a part of the FAI’s Administrative Fee and shall be credited to the respective party’s share of the advance on costs fixed by the FAI.

Advance on costs
The FAI will fix an advance on costs in all arbitrations conducted under its rules. The advance on costs is intended to cover the costs of the arbitration.
- Parties will be required to pay and advance on costs or their share thereof at the initial stages of the arbitration.
- The FAI will cover the cost of the arbitration, as determined by the FAI, from the advance on costs once the arbitration is completed.
- Any amount paid by the parties as an advance on costs that exceeds the costs of the arbitration determined by the FAI, will be reimbursed to the parties in the same proportions in which the advance on costs was paid.
- If the advance on costs is insufficient to cover the costs of the arbitration as determined by the FAI, the parties are liable to pay the remaining amount.
Fixing of the advance on costs
As a general rule, the FAI will typically fix the advance on costs following the below calculation method. Circumstances in individual arbitrations may, however, require that the advance on costs be fixed in a different manner. Fixing the advance on costs does not predetermine the final costs of the arbitration or the cost allocation between the parties.
- The amount of the advance on costs is based on the amount in dispute.
- The FAI Administative Fee is calculated to the advance on costs based on the amount provided by the FAI cost calculator.
- The fee(s) of the arbitrator/arbitrators is/are calculated to the advance on costs based on the fee between the median fee and the maximum fee.
- If the fee(s) of the arbitrator/arbitrators may be subject to VAT, the amount of the VAT is calculated to the advance on costs.
- In domestic arbitrations, a reservation for costs of 10% is calculated to the advance on costs.
- In international arbitrations, a reservation for costs of 15% is calculated to the advance on costs.
