LL.M. Reetta Mantere has been appointed Legal Counsel to the Finland Arbitration Institute as of 7 January 2025. As part of the FAI Secretariat, she will be responsible for the daily administration of arbitrations and mediations conducted under the FAI Arbitration Rules and FAI Mediation Rules.
Welcome to the FAI, Reetta! Can you tell us a bit about your professional background and what brought you here?
Thank you for the warm welcome! My interest in dispute resolution began during my university studies when I participated in the 29th Vis Moot, one of the world’s largest moot court competitions focused on international commercial law and arbitration. That experience gave me practical exposure to arbitration and counsel work, which I built on as a Senior Legal Trainee at a boutique law firm in Helsinki, working under excellent mentors. While completing my studies, I also coached fellow students preparing for the Vis Moot. These experiences ultimately led me to join the FAI upon graduating.
What aspects of your role at the FAI are you most looking forward to?
I am keen to gain a new perspective not only on arbitration but also on the broader dispute resolution market in the Nordics. I am also excited to contribute to some of the upcoming FAI projects that will be announced soon. Most importantly, I look forward to being part of delivering first-class services to everyone involved in FAI arbitration and mediation proceedings.
