Karri Heliö joined the FAI as Legal Counsel on 18 March 2024. During his secondment from Bird & Bird, Karri is responsible for carrying out the daily functions in the administration of FAI arbitrations and FAI mediations.
Welcome to the FAI, Karri! Could you share a bit about your interest in arbitration and your professional background?
“Of course, thank you. My interest in arbitration began during my university studies when I participated in the Vis Moot in 2018-2019. Since then, I have worked in dispute resolution at law firms, contributing to both domestic and international arbitration cases as a trainee, tribunal secretary, and associate. When the chance to join the FAI arose, it felt like the ideal next step. The opportunity to deepen my expertise at the FAI was too good to pass up. I didn’t have to think twice.”
What are you most looking forward to in your role at the FAI?
“I’m excited to handle a wide range of arbitration cases and gain new insights into both domestic and international arbitration practices. This role will allow me to build on my skills and experience as a dispute resolution lawyer. The environment at the FAI is inspiring, and we have a great team. I’m very much looking forward to contributing to the FAI’s success.”
